In 2012, our friends over at PurseBlog started our new favorite holiday to celebrate on October 10: National Handbag Day – dedicated to all of you fellow handbag lovers out there. At Yoogi’s Closet, we celebrate handbags all year ’round. We love how handbags can completely transform our outfits, make us feel great, how easy they are to obsess over, and of course, for carrying all the things we need! For this special day, we asked our bag-obsessed staff about their favorite handbags and why they adore them.
It’s been about 9 years since my wife, Eugenia “Yoogi”, came to me asking if we could sell her Chanel and Louis Vuitton items on the internet. We started out in her closet (hence the name, Yoogi’s Closet) selling the items she no longer loved, then moved on to items from our family, and eventually cleared out the closets of our friends. This was 2008, when the US real estate bubble popped and the stock market was on the verge of collapsing, before there were any other major players in the online pre-owned luxury market. We saw a need for a trusted website that sold guaranteed authentic luxury goods, so we pooled some capital and launched YoogisCloset.com.
To date, we have accepted no outside funding, which has allowed us to focus on sustainable growth with a complete emphasis on delighting every individual customer. We’ve been through 3 office spaces (we outgrew Eugenia’s closet pretty fast!), 4 e-commerce platforms, have been nominated for GeekWire’s “Bootstrapper of the Year” award in 2014, and have been included in the 100 Fastest Growing Private Companies by Puget Sound Business Journal 4 years in a row. Along the way we’ve learned a lot, but continue to do a great deal of research and training to become experts in authentication, industry trends, and archival research of the luxury brands we support.
The purpose of our new blog is to share some of our knowledge and all of our enthusiasm about luxury goods with you. We aim to provide helpful insights to help you make more educated purchases in a world that is full of counterfeits. Our staff will also provide in-depth posts of the truly stunning and unique items that arrive to warehouse everyday.
